Ostéopathie Canine

Our four-legged companions are just as concerned as we are by this manual medicine. Osteopathy is therefore indicated to relieve them. Complementary to veterinary medicine, it heals the functional disorders of our animals once it has been ascertained (the veterinarian) that there is no anatomical lesion (fracture, luxation, visceral lesion, neurological).

Osteopathy for horses

The manual techniques to rebalance the various parts of the horse with a lack of mobility will give a feeling of well-being in the horse, which will have better performance and will be more manageable by his rider. Anatomy and biomechanics help restore mobility to an area that has been in restriction.

Why consult ?

In Prevention

It is advisable to use an equine osteopath on a regular basis, at least once or twice a year depending on the activity of the horse. Whether it is recreational horses or sport horses, this regular monitoring ensures the horse a balance and good health.

In healing

The owner may use an animal osteopath following the appearance of symptoms, a change in behavior and / or on the recommendation of the veterinarian in particular. The rider-owner must remain attentive to a change of attitude or a drop in performance, for example, which may reveal a possible blockage.

Example of consultation reason

  • Musculoskeletal disorders: lameness, stiffness, irregularity, localized inflammation, shortening of the stride, sprains, tendinitis, postoperative ..

  • Following a trauma: Accident in the box, in the meadow or at work, fall, AVP ...

  • Behavioral disorders: Aggressiveness, low morale, abrupt change of attitude, refusal of the bit, sensitivity to strapping or grooming, difficulties in shoeing ...

  • Digestive disorders: Colic, diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite ...

  • Respiratory Disorders: Rapid shortness of breath, difficult recovery ...

  • Reproductive system disorders: Infertility, irregular bedbugs, difficult calving ...

  • Horse purchase visit: Complete osteopathic assessment coupled with that of the veterinarian.

Conduct of a session

The session begins with an interrogation: reasons for consultations, medical history, surgical, treatment in progress etc ... associated with a thorough examination of the radiological and biological assessments of the patient if they exist.

The osteopath determines the indications and contraindications of his therapy, but also if he must involve other therapists in the search for the cause and in the treatment of the reason (s) of consultations.

Then he starts by observing the body and its great movements. Then by specific palpatory tests (flexibility, elasticity and tissue tension, listening to the micro mobility of different areas of the body).

The practitioner, taking into account the particular problems of the patient, his knowledge of anatomy and physiology, will determine the movement restrictions that can affect all the structures making up the human body.

Any loss of restriction (joints, muscles, ligaments, viscera) can cause an imbalance of health.

The practitioner chooses the best adapted and most comfortable technique for the patient, according to his age, his morphology, the incriminated tissue and the area (s) of the body that need to be helped, to react and to be oriented towards finding a balance of health.

Throughout and until the end of the treatment, he ensures the quality change of the restricted areas of mobility treated.

Then, before raising the patient and letting go, he controls the harmony of the body under the influence of the pelvic and plantar support and gravity.

And ended the consultations with tips, exercises to perform at home such as stretching.

The osteopath by improving the quality of the tissues and the mobility of the different parts of the human body will help the body to self-balance.

For the welfare of the animal, it is necessary that the care is global and multidisciplinary between professionals, especially in synergy with the Veterinarian, the Marshal Ferrant, the Dentist ... for a better efficiency.
